Moving Tip of the Week: Stairs

Unlike other moving companies in the area, our Cincinnati moving company NEVER charges extra for stairs. We do, however, need to know ahead of time whether you'll have stairs or not in order to give you the best free estimate possible. Since 2005, we've serviced customers with straight stairways, old stairways, spiral stairways, and hillside stairways. Whatever the challenge, we can conquer it to offer you a smooth move. It is important to note that stairs will normally add extra time to your move, especially if you're moving into or out of 3rd and 4th floors. As we approach the hot summer months, it may also be a good idea to consider adding a 3rd mover to your crew. This will help keep your movers refreshed, make your move quicker, and save you money in the long run.

From all of us at the Move Cheap Cincinnati Movers, we hope your move is a great one!

Moving Tip of the Week: Elevators, Spiral Staircases, & Parking Spots.

The Move Cheap Cincinnati Movers have been serving the tri-state since 2005, and in that span of time, we've been to many interesting and unique places to move our customers. Museums, historic buildings, old factories, and sleep institutes are all places among our repertoire. Each building presents its own unique challenge, and we thought it would be a good idea to pass on what some of these challenges mean to you.

What many customers are unaware of is that elevators will actually slow down a job versus helping to speeding it up. If your move does require an elevator, it will be a good idea to try to reserve it for the time your moving services have been scheduled. More times than not, elevators are usually small and not much can be loaded inside of them. Additionally, most elevators have to be shared with other movers, or with the other residents of the building, which can lead to longer wait times and a larger bill to you.

Spiral staircases found in older Cincinnati homes, while absolutely beautiful, usually are tighter than modern spirals. Large and bulkier furniture items will often times not fit, and some staircases have banisters that cannot be removed to accommodate even the average sized item. This is especially true if the staircase is sharing an external wall. If you're moving into a house or apartment that has one of these staircases, you may want to measure the width, height, and depth against your larger furniture, and check to see if any banisters can be removed. It may also be a good notion to measure the size of the doors, as in our experience, older spiral staircases often times lead to older and smaller door frames. Massive amounts of time can be lost when moving pieces of furniture that won't fit. A few simple measurements can easily resolve that problem before the situation arises.

Parking spots can also create considerable challenges. Inner city moves frequently mean you have limited places available at your disposal to park. In these situations, you'll want to place orange cones on either end of your truck for street parking, and have someone available to watch the contents while your movers are loading or unloading. It is also a beneficial idea to contact the city or building manager to reserve that parking spot according to when you have scheduled your movers. When moving into a recently built home, newly poured driveways usually need to settle for a certain period of months to prevent damage. Large and heavy trucks can not be parked on them because of this, and are therefore diverted to the nearest curb. Please take this into consideration for your move as it means your movers will have a longer space to walk with your possessions, and it will likely increase your charged time. Apartment complexes are normally easier to find a parking spot, but it's still an excellent idea to reserve a spot ahead of time. The closer the truck or conatiner is to your home, the less expensive your move will be.

One last challenge that we've run into is a true rarity. Some apartment buildings or sub-divisions can sometimes have an entrance way covered by an arch leading into the community. Moving trucks are simply to big to drive through these types of entrances. This means a normal truck will need to be provided to act as a "shuttle", or you movers will have a very, very long distance to move your items. In these instances, you will need to budget for more time and more movers. As your Cincinnati moving company, Move Cheap will always be happy to walk you through these situations and help you decide which solutions best solve them.
