Moving Tip of the Week: Moving With Kids

Moving can be a challenge for your family, and the Move Cheap Cincinnati Movers understand that comforting your kids is particularly important during this time. Here are a few tips that might make the transition a smoother one.:

1. Keep an open dialog: Speak with your kids about what moving will be like and what they should expect. Listen carefully and address their concerns. You might be surprised what children find bothersome. For example, where will the family dog sleep in the new place?

Move Cheap Saves Dog's Life!

On May 28th, 2010 the Move Cheap Cincinnati Movers began unloading their customer, Polly Mangold, in Dayton, OH. The move had started in Cincinnati and was seemingly the smooth and normal moving job that Move Cheap customers had come to expect. Mrs. Mangold had tied her dog Princess to the back porch to keep her out of the way of the movers as they were moving items into her new home. While in the truck, the movers heard a terrible scream and ran to the back of the house where the sound had originated. The story quickly unfolded. Princess had jumped off the porch and in the process had hung herself on her leash. The customer, Mrs. Mangold had found her dog dead and cried out in horror. Jacob Clark, one of Move Cheap's movers remembered a show he had recently watched on Animal Planet, and immediately went to work to try and resuscitate the dog. Preforming CPR through the pup's nose, Jacob managed to bring Princess back from doggy heaven. Mrs. Mangold is thrilled, and Princess is again living happily at her side.

Moving Tip of the Week: Summer Heat

As most all Cincinnati moving companies can tell you, the summer is the prime season for moving. During this beautiful time of year comes the opportunity for many families to move, but it also comes with high heat and humidity. Our movers are accustomed to working under these conditions, and are consistently instructed on staying hydrated and out of the sun as much as possible. Many of our customers "pre-move" some items themselves, so we thought this would be a good moment to elaborate the real risks and hazards the summer heat can produce. At the Move Cheap Cincinnati Movers, we're not only concerned with our movers, but the customers we're moving also. What follows is an article we found from the Mayo Clinic that pertains to working in hot weather.

"How hot weather affects your body

Working in hot weather puts extra stress on your heart and lungs. Both working itself and the air temperature increase your body temperature. To dissipate heat, more blood circulates through your skin. This leaves less blood for your muscles, which increases your heart rate. If the humidity is high, your body faces added stress because sweat doesn't readily evaporate from your skin — which only pushes your body temperature higher.

Under normal conditions, your skin, blood vessels and perspiration level adjust to the heat. But these natural cooling systems may fail if you're exposed to high temperatures and humidity for too long. The result may be a heat-related illness, such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion or heatstroke.

How to avoid heat-related illnesses

To keep it cool while working in hot weather, keep these basic precautions in mind:

• Take it slow. If you're used to working indoors or in cooler weather, take it easy at first. As your body adapts to the heat, gradually increase the length and intensity of your work ethic. If you have a chronic medical condition or take medication, ask your doctor if you need to take additional precautions.
• Drink plenty of fluids. Your body's ability to sweat and cool down depends on adequate re-hydration. Drink plenty of water while you're working — even if you don't feel thirsty. If you're planning to work intensely or for longer than one hour, consider sports drinks instead. These drinks can replace the sodium, chloride and potassium you lose through sweating. Avoid drinks that contain caffeine or alcohol, which actually promote fluid loss.
• Dress appropriately. Lightweight, loose-fitting clothing promotes sweat evaporation and cooling by letting more air pass over your body. Avoid dark colors, which can absorb the heat. A light-colored hat can limit your exposure to the sun.
• Avoid midday sun. Working in the morning or evening — when it's likely to be cooler outdoors — rather than the middle of the day.
  
• Wear sunscreen. A sunburn decreases your body's ability to cool itself.
• Have a backup plan. If you're concerned about the heat or humidity, stay indoors.
  

Know when to call it quits

While working in hot weather, be on the lookout for heat-related illness. Signs and symptoms may include:

• Weakness
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Muscle cramps
• Nausea or vomiting
• Rapid heartbeat

If you suspect a heat-related illness, stop working and get out of the heat. Drink water, and wet and fan your skin. If you don't feel better within 60 minutes, contact your doctor. If you develop a fever higher than 102 F (38.9 C) or become faint or confused, seek immediate medical help."

The Go Green Initiative & The Move Cheap Cincinnati Movers

The Move Cheap Cincinnati Movers are proud to announce that we have joined The Go Green Initiative, an organization designed to help make communities more green friendly and successful. As a Cincinnati moving company and a Cincinnati moving supply store, we see a large consumption of cardboard, paper, and plastics every day. We have become dedicated to reducing the use of such materials and also recycling our daily consumption.

There are many moving companies throughout the Cincinnati Tri-State Area who offer recycled moving products, and while this is being responsible, we've found that these recycled products are often times more expensive than the new products we carry. We refuse to charge our customers more money simply because a product is recycled. To counteract the effect of new boxes, we needed a green solution. That's why we've partnered with CSI, a division of Republic Services, and now house a cardboard recycling dumpster at our retail store location. Customers purchasing boxes from us or any other Cincinnati moving company around town can bring their left over boxes here to be recycled. Additionally, we will be selling any used boxes donated to the Move Cheap Cincinnati Movers for just $1.00. All proceeds from the sale of used moving boxes will be used to pay for the cost of the recycling dumpster and will also be donated to The Go Green Initiative to help support their cause.

Best of all, the U-Haul brand boxes we stock to purchase are all made of 90% post-consumer fiber. By creating a greener footprint, our company hopes to spread our renewed environmental responsibilities throughout our community.

Mover Myth #1: Professional Wrestlers will be your movers

• Contrary to popular belief, not all movers are 7 feet tall and have muscles the size of the moon. In fact, most movers are regular Joes, just like you or me. You may also find that the smaller guy scan out perform the herculean movers of the industry.

Mover Myth #2: Movers requesting tips

• Some times, television or the silver screen can depict movers holding their hands out for expected gratuity, or breaking a customer's furniture because they were not tipped.
